Hurricane season is here! It is crucial to ensure the safety and well-being of seniors who may require additional assistance and support. If you have home health or home care services, you might have received papers enclosed in the home folder. One of which is Emergency Preparedness that outlines important things to do and run through contingencies in case disasters will occur.

If you or your loved ones have disabilities with functional need that require medical assistance or evacuation during and event of emergencies, SIGN UP to STEAR (State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry). You can register online at Stear.tdem.texas.gov. There is also an option to call 211 for assistance.
Support network: Create a list of Emergency Contacts, including family members, neighbors, friends, and healthcare providers. Keep a copy in a safe, easily accessible place.
Medication and medical supplies: Ensure an adequate supply of prescription medications, as well as any medical equipment or supplies needed. Keep a record of medication names, dosages, and any allergies. Consider obtaining a one-month supply of medications in advance.
Emergency kit: Prepare an emergency kit that includes essential items such as non-perishable food, bottled water, a flashlight, batteries, a first aid kit, personal hygiene items, a battery-powered radio, extra clothing, and any necessary medical supplies.
Personal documents: Gather important documents such as identification cards, insurance policies, medical records, and contact information for healthcare providers. Keep them in a waterproof container or digitally store them in a secure location.
Practice drills: Conduct practice drills to familiarize with the evacuation process, emergency procedures, and how to use necessary equipment. Rehearsing these steps can increase your confidence and preparedness.
